Default Nine is a metalcore band built on grit, adaptability, and the hunger to evolve. Formed in 2009 by Devin McCoy, the band began as a raw outlet for emotion and intensity, eventually shaping into a project defined by fearless experimentation and a refusal to stay boxed into old habits. From the beginning, Default Nine blended crushing heaviness with melodic precision, creating a sound that hits hard but stays honest.

The original lineup featured Devin McCoy alongside Britney Miller and Chris Edwards. Both original members played with the band until 2011 before stepping away due to relocation of Devin. After their departure, Default Nine entered a period of hiatus as the project’s direction and lineup shifted.

In 2013, the next era of Default Nine took shape when Tiger Varnadore joined, bringing new energy and expanding the sound. Curtis Thomas and Guillermo Ayerbe soon followed, helping rebuild the band into a tighter and more focused unit. Guillermo remained an essential part of the group until his departure in 2018, while Tiger and Curtis continue as active members and core forces in the band.

The evolution continued in 2025 with the addition of Jacob Sanchez, marking a new chapter for Default Nine and strengthening the lineup with fresh talent and creative drive.

Today, Default Nine embraces a mindset of growth and reinvention. Every member balances real life responsibilities with the commitment to push the music forward, proving that passion and discipline can coexist. Default Nine is determined to stay flexible and creative, taking modern trends, bending them to their will, and fusing them with the grit of old school influence. This approach has become their signature, a style that stands out because it refuses to apologize for being bold.
